Mediation is a non-legal profession introduced in the national legislation of 2006 by Law 192/2006 on the mediation and organization of the profession of mediator. The initial form has undergone numerous modifications and adaptations following the change of the criminal and civil codes, as well as of the results found in practice.

The alignment of the national legislation with the standards of the other European states by introducing this profession belonging to the restorative justice is still in progress, despite the long period of time since its entry into force.
